COURSE OVERVIEW

Help your child develop an understanding that everything around us is made up of different parts and systems that interact and work together, from the human body to the environment to the technology we use to the teamwork it takes to make our communities better. Through interactive Learning Activities, including videos, fun crafts, writing practice, and movement and observation activities, your child will explore what it means to be part of a community.

By the end of this course’s 15 lessons, your child will have learned about the many things that make up a community and their unique place in it.

LESSON 1: MOVEMENT AND THE BODY

Get your child moving in this interactive lesson featuring movements and exercises for different parts of the body—including the Muscle and Bone Hokey Pokey! Your child will also explore the skeleton, muscles, heart, and lungs and how the brain is in charge of everything.

LESSON 2: LET’S MOVE FAST AND SLOW

Set the pace for learning with your child in this fun lesson that explores how people and things move fast and slow. Your child will learn how different types of energy are needed for each, including when we exercise.

LESSON 3: ELEMENTS OF NATURE WORKING TOGETHER

Introduce your child to the many ways that animals depend on other animals, plants, and their environment for the things they need to live. In this lesson, your child will learn about some of the “elemental” differences between living and nonliving things.

LESSON 4: LETTER SOUNDS & WORDS WORKING TOGETHER

Help your child head in the “write” direction with this engaging lesson on how letters and letter sounds work together to make words and how words work together to make sentences, stories, and songs. Your child will also learn about end punctuation and why it’s important, period!

LESSON 5: MUSICIANS WORKING TOGETHER

Create beautiful learning music with your child in this lesson that explores how people work together to make music. Your child will learn that sounds are vibrations that our ears feel and that musical instruments create sound vibrations in a variety of interesting ways.

LESSON 6: LET’S MOVE OUR BODIES

Learning how to be healthy feels good! In this lesson, your child will discover that exercise is not only part of having good physical health, but that it can also improve your mood. Your child will also learn that we use energy when we exercise. 

LESSON 7: HEALTHY HABITS

Strengthen your child’s learning habits by exploring how things like healthy foods, getting enough sleep, and exercising are important ways to keep our bodies healthy. Your child will also learn that living a healthy life involves having and keeping healthy routines!

LESSON 8: LET’S DANCE

Move to the beat with your child and dance your way into learning! This lesson explores dance as a fun, effective way to exercise and introduces rhythm as a pattern of sound. Your child will discover that dance is not only fun but can be used to express many emotions.

LESSON 9: INVENTORS CAN HELP SOLVE PROBLEMS

Engage your child’s problem-solving skills as you explore this lesson on inventors together. Your child will learn that an inventor is a person who takes an idea and creates something new and that an invention is a new idea or thing that often makes life easier.

LESSON 10: MAPS CAN HELP SOLVE PROBLEMS

Take your child on a journey of learning all about maps! In this lesson, your child will discover that maps tell us where things are located and that they also help us solve problems because they show us how to get from one place to another.

LESSON 11: TOOLS & TECHNOLOGY CAN HELP SOLVE PROBLEMS

Teach your child that tools and technology can be used to help us solve problems and that examples of technology can be found everywhere, even at home. Your child will also learn about tools and how they’re used to help make things work around us.

LESSON 12: EXPLORATION & FOLLOWING CLUES CAN HELP SOLVE PROBLEMS

Engage your child as a “junior investigator” as you teach them that noticing clues is a method for finding possible solutions to a problem. In this lesson, your child will discover that exploring different ideas or ways of doing things is another way to solve problems.

LESSON 13: NEW WAYS OF THINKING CAN HELP SOLVE PROBLEMS

Invite your child to think outside the box and discover that finding new ways of thinking or looking at things can help generate new ideas. Your child will also be introduced to the concept of creating a strategy or plan for solving a problem.

LESSON 14: COMMUNITY MEMBERS WORKING TOGETHER

Help your child learn that when people cooperate and work together, they can often reach a common goal. This engaging lesson introduces the concept of community workers and how teamwork, or working together, can improve our communities and make them better.

LESSON 15: BODY PARTS WORKING TOGETHER

Every-body can agree that being human is an amazing thing! In this lesson, your child will discover that the human body is made up of different parts and systems that work together. Your child will also learn that bones and muscles are part of the musculoskeletal system, which helps us move!
