COURSE OVERVIEW

Embark on the journey of mastering the art of language with your child through this comprehensive course on grammar. Understanding how words work together to create meaning in sentences and texts is essential for effective communication and can greatly enhance reading, listening comprehension, and written expression.

Through this course’s 17 lessons, your child will learn about parts of speech, verb tenses, irregular verbs, sentence structure, punctuation, and forms of words. By the end of the course, your child will have a deeper understanding of grammar rules.

LESSON 1: NOUNS AND VERBS

Introduce your child to the basics of nouns and verbs. In this lesson, your child will learn that nouns are words for people, places, animals, and things and that verbs describe actions. Your child will also learn why both nouns and verbs are essential elements of sentences.

LESSON 2: DESCRIBING WORDS

Get ready for a colorful adventure in language! In this lesson, you will teach your child all about descriptive words like adjectives and adverbs. They’ll learn how these words can paint a picture in the minds of listeners and readers, bringing characters, settings, and actions to life. They’ll also practice identifying and using these descriptive words in their own writing and speaking.

LESSON 3: PRONOUNS

Help your child become a pronoun pro! In this lesson, they’ll learn about words that stand in for nouns, like he or she and it or they. They’ll also learn how to use pronouns correctly in their writing and speaking and become able to spot them in sentences.

LESSON 4: PREPOSITIONS

Help your child explore the world of prepositions! They’ll learn how to use words like over, under, in, and on to add direction, location, and time to their sentences. They’ll also get to practice using prepositions through fun writing and speaking activities that will help them feel more confident in their language skills.

LESSON 5: TYPES OF SENTENCES

Teach your child to be a “sentence detective” with this lesson on the types of sentences and how to use punctuation, context clues, and intonation to identify them. Your child will learn to spot declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory sentences. Your child will also learn the secret code of using end punctuation marks to go with each sentence type.

LESSON 6: PROPER NOUNS

Take your child on a journey with King Grammar to the town of Proper. This lesson is all about proper nouns and capital letters. Your child will learn to spot the special names that identify specific people, places, animals, and things. They’ll also learn when to use a capital letter at the start of a sentence or a proper noun.

LESSON 7: REGULAR PLURAL NOUNS

This lesson is all about showing your child how to change words from singular to plural. They’ll learn the rules for using -s-es, and -ies at the ends of words. They’ll also get plenty of practice so they can show off their new skills in writing and conversation!

LESSON 13: IRREGULAR PAST-TENSE VERBS

LESSON 15: RUN-ON SENTENCES AND COMPOUND SENTENCES

This lesson is designed to help your child learn to recognize run-on sentences as sentences that include two or more sentences without a connecting word or period. They will also learn that the simple fix of adding a comma and a conjunction can turn a run-on sentence into a compound sentence.
