  • Cause & Effect
  • Animal & Plant Life
  • Cycles
  • The Environment
  • The Earth’s Cycles
  • Making Choices

COURSE OVERVIEW

Engage your child’s inquisitive mind and help deepen their observation skills in this course that explores detecting patterns as well as the concept of cause and effect. With a variety of engaging Learning Activities, including drawing and vocabulary practice, making comparison charts, research activities, fun Professor Hester videos, and much more, your child will be introduced to thinking scientifically.

By the end of this course’s 14 lessons, your child will have developed a better understanding of how actions cause reactions and how our choices impact the world around us.

LESSON 1: PATTERNS IN THE STARS

Reach for the stars as you teach your child about constellations! In this lesson, your child will discover that constellations are made up of patterns of stars and that rhyming words contain similar patterns of letter sounds.

LESSON 2: THE EFFECT OF WEATHER ON THE LAND

When engaging new concepts are introduced, the result is learning! In this lesson, your child will learn that cause means to make something happen, and the effect is what happens. Your child will also explore how weathering is the way that weather changes land and rocks over time.

LESSON 3: ANIMAL LIFE CYCLES

Learning happens constantly! This lesson will help you teach your child that a cycle is a pattern that occurs repeatedly. Your child will also learn that all living things have a life cycle, including animals, plants, and people

LESSON 4: PLANT LIFE CYCLES

Help grow your child’s knowledge with this interesting lesson on the life cycle of plants. In it, your child will discover that the life cycle of most plants usually includes these steps: seed, sprout, shoot, flower, and fruit.

LESSON 5: THE WATER CYCLE

It’s raining learning with this lesson on how clouds and weather are part of the water cycle on Earth. In it, your child will learn that all living things on Earth depend on water and that water must be conserved and protected.

LESSON 6: OUR DAILY ACTIVITY CYCLE

From work to play to free time, your child will learn that our bodies and brains depend on a cycle of activity and rest. This lesson also explores how the nervous system includes the brain and nerves.

LESSON 7: INTRODUCTION TO PATTERNS

Nurture a consistent pattern of learning with this interactive lesson! In it, your child will discover that a pattern is a design that follows a rule or plan and that some patterns repeat predictably. They will also learn that patterns can be found in nature, numbers, and words.

LESSON 8: NUMBER PATTERNS

Help your child discover that patterns are everywhere! This lesson introduces the concept that numbers follow counting patterns and that rhyming words contain similar patterns of letter sounds. Your child will also learn that skip counting is counting forward or backward by a number other than 1.

LESSON 9: PATTERNS IN NATURE

Learning is camouflaged as fun in this engaging lesson on the many ways patterns appear in nature! This lesson will help you teach your child that patterns can be found on many things, including in the spots or stripes on an animal’s fur.

LESSON 10: OUR EFFECT ON THE ENVIRONMENT

Make an impact on your child’s learning with this lesson on the many ways people impact the environment. Your child will learn that certain actions help or hurt the environment and that planting seeds is a simple way that we can help protect it!

LESSON 11: ACTION (CAUSE) AND REACTION (EFFECT)

Help deepen your child’s understanding of making choices with this lesson on cause and effect. In it, your child will explore the concept that actions cause reactions or cause another thing to happen, and that people can choose how they react.

LESSON 12: THE EFFECT OF MUSIC ON OUR MOODS

Explore the many ways music affects us as you teach your child that music can change our mood or how we feel. Your child will also discover that listening can help us learn!

LESSON 13: HELPFUL ACTIONS CAUSE GOOD REACTIONS

Learning to make positive choices and do good things for others is powerful. In this lesson, your child will learn that one person’s actions can cause people and things around them to change, and that people can choose actions that create positive reactions.

LESSON 14: EARTH’S CYCLES

Take your child on a learning journey as they discover that the four seasons happen every year. They will also learn that daytime and nighttime occur in a regular cycle, no matter where you are in the world!

LESSON 15: RHYMING PATTERN

Let your child sing and read along as you teach them that songs, poems, and nursery rhymes are written with patterns of words that rhyme! Your child will also explore how numbers follow counting patterns and learn that skip counting is counting forward or backward by a number other than 1.
